Living at Aluna
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations made more than 30 days before arrival receive a full refund. For cancellations within 30 days of arrival, or in case of a no-show, the down payment is non-refundable. To cancel, email us at hello@aluna-nicaragua.com
When is the check-in/check-out?
Check-in is after 2pm and check-out before 11am. If you arrive earlier or leave later, you're welcome to store your luggage in the pool house. Please note that since we don't have a reception, belongings left there are unattended.
How do I get to Aluna?
It depends on where you're coming from.
From Managua: The easiest way is by taxi, which takes about 5 hours. Let us know if you'd like us to organize one for you (hello@aluna-nicaragua.com).
From El Salvador: You can take a chicken bus from Potosí heading towards Chinandega and get off at km 168, the entrance to Aserradores. From there, you can take a taxi or tuk-tuk to Aluna or let us know and we'll organize a taxi for you in advance.
What payment methods do you accept?
You can pay by cash or credit card. Please note that credit card payments carry a bank fee of about 5%.
What else can I do other than surfing?
Plenty! At Aluna, you can relax by the pool or join a yoga session in our yoga shala. In the surrounding area, you can hike the Cosigüina volcano, go fishing, or experience a traditional temazcal. And of course, there's the daily ritual of heading to the beach to watch the sunset.
Do you offer long-term rental?
Yes, we do! Aluna is ideal for longer stays, as everything you need is right here: a private tiny house with your own kitchen, a coworking space, a pool and a yoga shala. Simply book your stay for as long as you like here.
About Aserradores Nicaragua
Is there an ATM?
There is no ATM in Aserradores. Make sure to withdraw enough cash in Chinandega before heading here.
Are there supermarkets?
Aserradores has a few small local shops (tiendas) that carry basic staples. For a larger selection, La Colonia in Chinandega is the best option — about one hour by car from Aluna.
Is it safe in Aserradores, Nicaragua?
Nicaragua is much safer than many people believe. The Nicaraguan people are extremely friendly and helpful.
Aluna is located in a safe and friendly small fishing town, and we are positive that you'll fall in love with the authenticity of the people and culture here. The main attractions are easily reachable and safe during daylight hours.
That said, we recommend the usual precautions: keep an eye on your belongings and stay aware of your surroundings. If you head out on your own, it's a good idea to let someone know your plans. Minor thefts are rare but do happen, so it's best not to leave personal items unattended.
When is the best time to visit Nicaragua?
Nicaragua has two seasons. Temperatures along the coast range from 27 to 35°C (80 to 95°F) all year round, and humidity is noticeable, especially in the wet season.
Dry season (November to April): Expect warm, sunny weather and clear, starry nights. It's also when mango and avocado season begins. The waves are generally gentler, which makes it the ideal time for beginners and anyone who wants to improve their basics. The water is warm most of the year, but it can feel a bit chilly in February, so some surfers bring a springsuit.
Wet season (May to October): The rains turn the landscape lush and green, with increased rainfall and occasional thunderstorms. Intermediate and experienced surfers love this time of year for the bigger swells and smaller crowds. It's prime season for El Boom as well as the point breaks and reef breaks nearby. There are still protected spots suitable for learning, but guided surf trips are better suited for experienced surfers during this period
